Getting a bit summery with Mad About Scrappin

Feeling very bright and summery at the moment with all the sunshine and warm weather here in Adelaide at the moment.

Mind you I must say it has been a welcome relief from all the warm weather to be able to hide away in my scrap room and play.

Once again I have been lucky to be able to put together another kit for you to play with  on behalf of Mad About Scrappin.

And YES.. once again it was hard to choose what to put in the kit. However going with the summery feel I chose some bright paper by My Mind's Eye to play with.

Now I am not really much of an orange and yellow person but these papers were crying out to be played with. Plus the fact I love to be able to challenge myself too to create something just that little bit different too.

So here's the kit I have created for you and was released at the Mad About Scrappin Flog It Friday Sale.

And these are the layouts and card that I created using the goodies from the kit.

Remember that you get the FULL instructions to be able to create the layouts yourself.

The kits are available exclusively to Mad About Scrappin.

Head over to the Mad About Scrappin to see what other goodies are in store.

Happy Scrapping, Michelle x

A Romantic Card with Jeanette

A couple of weeks ago I took part in a Valentine's swap where one of the things we had to make was a card.  It was to include the word 'love', have trim and/or lace, flowers and a love heart. As always I used my gorgeous flowers from Mad About Scrappin. I chose the white Cosmos Daisy and Cherry Blossom from the store and the white Azalea, white Velvet Leaves and the word 'love' from the Flog It Friday Sale on Facebook. These combined with some old music paper, lace, a Silver heart, seam binding, lace, doiley and bling, I also added a tiny stickpin for good measure. It made for a very romantic card which would also be gorgeous to give for an engagement or wedding. By adding a little 'gesso' to the yellow of the stamens in the flowers it kept the theme white with touches of black. I think the overall look was very 'Vintage Shabby Chic'.
This was a very easy card to put together yet the result is quite striking.

Making a mess but having fun

Hello Everyone.

Michelle here from Adelaide, South Australia.

I am super excited to have been invited back to play along with you all at Mad about Scrappin.

I have been having a bit of fun this month so far mixing it up with this months challenge.

I think when I see the word challenge my eyes light up and my brain seems to tick over.
so for this month's challenge I got to work creating a layout of my eldest daughter.

Now.. I have just recently moved house and am slowly getting rid of piles of packaging and cardboard from new furniture I have bought. Bearing that in mind I have some of the packaging to be of use for future scrap booking projects... that is much to my children's disgust. "More cardboard packaging to find a storage place for!" they said. lol

So for my technique as part of this month challenge I have recycled some of the cardboard packaging as my base for my layout. To the base I wanted to add some texture and have managed to do this using a few layers of paper napkins adhered directly to the cardboard base with a glue wash. The key is to use a paint brush to apply the glue wash, be gentle and not worry about wrinkles as they really do add to the effect!  Plus the best bit is that because the recycled card was quite thick it was able to work well with the glue wash and napkins without warping when it dried.

After the base had dried I then applied a wash of watered down paint and then got busy with multiple colours of glimmer mist to suit the paper I had chosen to use. The glimmer mist helped to highlight the scrunched napkins. Plus the glimmer mists also gives the base of the layout a slight shimmer when the light hits it.

The last technique I have used is hand cutting. I actually find hand cutting quite relaxing..
Nuts I know!
Because I was in the recycling mood AND because I just couldn't find the right flourish that I light I decided to mix up a few of my wooden flourishes and trace off the bits I liked onto recycled card till I had a flourish I was happy with. I then used my craft knife to remove the excess card stock and then coloured it with glimmer mist till I was happy with the colour.
Super easy and at least I got the exact flourish I wanted.

Super happy with the end result. I got to recycled some of my packaging AND got to get messy creating in the process.

Why not play around with the challenge this month and see what you can create.

Distressing and Embossing

Hi All

Louise, here to show you my page that I created with the prompt from this months glorious Mad about Scrappin, facebook challenge.

Use your favourite colour combo... firstly I have to admit every colour is my favourite, so I went with Brown/ Peach and Aqua as my colours as this matched the photo I was using. I ended up using a paper pack I had brought from Mad about Scrappin's online store Teresa Collins 'Tell your Story'. This paper pack is just gorgeous full of yummy peach tones and aqua, blended with white.  You will notice not alot of white on my page but I will get to that in a moment.

The next requirement for the challenge was to use 2 techniques on the page, I used Embossing and Sanding, Misting and lastly distressing of the papers. I grabbed my woodgrain embossing folder(my favourite) and some of you may gasp but I cut it in half.

This allowed me to emboss a strip of Kraft-core core'dinations twice along it's length I used two pieces 12in by 3 1/2in. I then sanded the raised embossed edge to show up the Kraft core and lightly inked with Tea Dye Distress Ink.

My next Technique was misting, I used glimmer mists to change the white on the aqua/white chevron to aqua and cream. I utilised this on all of the papers I have used on this page, I wanted more of an aged look to go with the photo I had chosen. This is a photo of my youngest daughter using Instragram filters which I love, they make the photo look from the eighties.  To distress the papers every edge was also inked with 3 inks firstly Antique Linen then Tea Dye and finally Pumice Stone all from the Distress Ink range.  To create the shadows and depth on your page, play with the paper before you stick it down, I like to curl or flick the edges to make it 'less stiff' very technical I know.  You will be amazed at how much of a difference this makes.

Love this MDF camera from WOW chipboard which Mad about Scrapping sold at Flog it Friday in January. Using them on all my pages at the moment as well as the yummy sequins, of course I had to have every colour ;)

My embellishment cluster was made up of lots of little resin and crochet pieces I collect in the Flog it Friday sales, they are fantastic for picking up pieces for clusters that do not cost the earth. Again my title is made up of a tiny word chipboard that was sold at the last Flog it Friday.

Here is my completed page all together

ADORE YOU

Hope you like this page as a little inspiration from the Monthly Challenge Creative Team.

Creative Team Member Jo's Feb Challenge!!

Hey everyone!

I was so excited when Leanne asked me to join her wonderful team again and I couldn't wait to jump on board.  I'm really looking forward to sharing some ideas and hoping to inspire you too.

For this months challenge I decided to go with an easel card.

My first technique was using my prisma pencils to colour the image.  I love colouring!  It really seems to help me unwind.  The other technique is hand stitching.  I have been going nuts with the hand stitching at the moment.  It does take a little more time but I seem to have a love hate relationship with my sewing machine.  I really like the effect that the stitching gives.  Kinda just draws your eyes into the page.

Here is a close up of my cluster.  All my pages or cards seem to have lots of clustering on.  Sometimes I think I may go a little overboard.  I did try to hold back a wee bit otherwise to post this card will cost a heap!

As for choosing a favourite colour combo - that was the hardest part!  I love so many colours.  So I chose one of my fav paper collections - Kaisercraft's The Lakehouse.

Now that the kiddies are back at school and holidays are over I hope you find some time to join in the fun of this months challenge.  A great prize is up for grabs so why not have a go?

Creative Team Member Renee's Feb Challenge!!

Hello MAD fans!
Hope you have a creative and happy start to this the month for sweet hearts :)
I am so very excited to share with you my first layout for Mad About Scrapin  the February challenge!
Firstly here is the deets of the challenge:
(AWESOME challenge!) And you can easily do an OTP, a card or a layout with this one!
Now here is my take on it:

I can be Strong

I have used various flowers as my embelly cluster and have done ink splats as my first technique and stenciling/masking (I have used ink not mist so I am going with stenciling ;) as my second tech.
And to finish it off I have used one of my fav colour combos - Baby blue, mustard and grey :)
Here's some closies:
I have wound the stems of the flowers around a pin to get the "curly" vine look and then hot glue gunned them in here and there.

and here you can see one of the ink splats which can be achieved thru a couple of different techniques, by either using a Dauber topped ink or loading up one of your finger daubers with ink refillers or paint and hitting it down hard onto the paper. (I highly recommend practicing this first before committing to your layout as I know I have been liable  for mistakes with this technique myself! but the end result is really cool :)

So peeps If you are feeling like there is a lack of mojo or scrappy direction why not give the February challenge ago? Not only will it give you a fab framework to start off your scrapping but you go in the draw to win a Mad about Scrapin voucher :)

Luv Renee
