Altered Frame - Shabby Chic Earring Holder

Firstly HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all.  I hope everyone had a fabulous time and you have all recuperated. I look forward to sharing my creations with you throughout 2014.

Today I have a bit of a product share from Mad About Scrappin. Something a little different and I used no paper at all!!!  I have altered an old wooden photo frame that I had stuck away in my stash into a Shabby Chic Earring Hanger. I totally lifted this idea from my scrapping buddy Tash.

Sooo my frame started out looking something like this....

 I gave it a couple of coats of gesso and then a layer of Kaisercrafts Pink Acrylic paint.  Once it was all thoroughly dry I applied some Kaisercraft crackle medium and waited for about three hours before applying the final coat of white acrylic paint.

 I have used some shabby pink floral fabric from my sewing stash.  I have used some lovely curly roses and forget me knots  along with one of my Tattered Chic Crochet Bloom.  I have used some white lace and pearl trim to create the strips to tuck my earrings into.

 Here is a nice close up on my corner flower cluster.  Totally addicted to doing this technique.....no matter how hard I try - I always find myself starting in the corner!!!...I have added a stickpin I recently received in a RAK from Tash.

Something New for Mad About Scrappin in 2014

 

With a new year starting it's time to mix it up a little and change how things are working with the weekly layout of the week I do here on behalf of Mad About Scrappin.

 

So.. to keep those creative juices flowing and get you all to be more creative we have decided the Layout of the Week was 2013 and for 2014 we have something much more exciting for you.

 

Every Friday morning on behalf of Mad About Scrappin there will be a new weekly post called "Creative Inspiration".

 

Every week I will post something that is card, scrap booking or even off the page related. It may be a technique I want to share. It may be something I have created. Or it may even be something that has inspired me to get creative. I am hoping this will inspire you to get creative over the weekend yourself.

 

So to start things off with our new weekly post.

 

Here's a layout I have created for you this week.

 I wanted to create a quick and simple layout this time around. Sometimes I just don't have much time to myself to be able to creative something big. I also don't like starting a layout and having to come back to it. So with that in mind I now sit down to create and aim to complete the layout in the time I do have. I also don't want to turn my scrap booking into a chore. I found it very easy to create something fun with this kit. Everything I needed was in the kit (barring the floss, tape and button) to create this layout.

Sometimes it's all about keeping it simple.

A Challenge for 2014 !

Welcome to 2014!!

 

I am glad myself that a new year has started and I get a chance to start everything off fresh.

 

I started this year off fresh with Mad About Scrappin and a challenge using a sketch by Anne Patterson.

 

Now.. before I get into the sketch...let me explain something to you. The lovely Leanne, owner of Mad About Scrappin, had sent me a kit to play around with a few months ago. Now.. I am up for any challenge but THIS challenge certainly got me thinking. I received the Jenni Bowlin -  Echo Park Photo Freedom Collection Kit. Now I love the colours in this and knew that playing around with the kit would not be any problem at all. HOWEVER !!!! as I always do I had to push the boundaries even more. I decided that I would use the kit to create this month's sketch AND I would also use the photo pocket sleeves that came with the kit also.

 

Now this certainly was a challenge !!!

 

So..

Here's my take on the sketch...

 

it is a little hard to photograph it in the photo pocket sleeve too I must say.

 I am glad that I was able to make this work. I really enjoyed the challenge I set for myself. It did take a bit of playing around to get it to work for me. But I did have fun.

 Because the kit is made up of a mixture of double sided patterned paper some being full patterns and some being journal cards to fit the photo sleeve pockets I decided to mix it up a little. I found one of the journal cards worked perfectly for the base of my title. I then added some hessian, a wood veneer camera and some acrylic letter to finish off my title. These all fit nicely into the photo sleeve pocket.

By using a little wood veneer frame I was able to print off another photo and add it both as a feature and a starting point for my embellishment cluster.
